The Motorcycle Diaries

Trip to the countryside of the rich continent - Latin America started into a zealous adventure of a 23-year-old Ernesto Guevara and his friend Alberto Granado. Right through his expedition, Ernesto observed the far-reaching penury which influenced his thoughts to a great extent. As the years passed, he became known worldwide as ‘El Che’, the legendary Marxist. Directed by a Brazilian director Walter Salles, The Motorcycle Diaries is a travel film that depicts the dawn of this revolutionary legend. The trip is wished-for nothing except fun and adventure at the outset but it reaches to an aim in due course. Guevara, played by Gael Garcia Bernal and Granado, played by Rodrigo de la Serna leave their homes in 1952 and hit the road with a rickety Norton 500 motorcycle of Alberto.

29-year-old biochemist’s bike, ‘La Poderosa’ that means the mighty one, was expected to dash all the way through their 8000 km long journey to South America starting from Buenos Aires and counting almost 4 months.

Unfortunately, the jaunt doesn’t go the way it was planned. These two buddies bump into many tribulations. The likely one is the breakdown of ‘La Poderosa’ which make them run slow than the projected time. Dearth of enough cash, their strong libidos and Ernesto’s asthma put them before some challenging situations.

Besides, the film stays focused on the thorough makeover in the beliefs of Guevara. The transformation starts taking shape when he comes across the sweeping mourning in the continent followed by the interactions with some Communists in the Chile, Peru. In the end, the appearance of real 82-year-old Alberto Granado is the true attraction of movie that stunned the 2004 Sundance Film Festival.
